Donald asks…

What are some ideas for Halloween costumes?

I am thinking about being Poison Ivy, but i want more backup ideas...and not the generic/unoriginal costume like an angel, a superhero, dark vampire thing, a fricken nurse/police/firefighter/sailor, or anything like that! An example of what i want would be like...the Rainbow Fish or Columbia from The Rocky Horror Picture Show. You know? Something people normally wouldn't do. All i can think of is a swan and poison ivy >.<
Let me rephrase what I don't want the ideas to be. I don't want any of the ideas to be something that's coming from Party City or any of those Halloween stores.

2010 Halloween costumes for twins?

Are you stuck on a Halloween costume idea for your twins this year 2010? Finding the right twin costume is hard, because you don’t want to use the same old costume ideas from last year such as Two Peas in the Pod, Boring Thing 1 & Thing 2, devil and angel, salt and pepper or The DoubleMint Twins. Use your noggin and be creative.

Some of my favorite ideas for twins costumes this year are a nerd/prep, washer and dryer, happy face and sad face, minions, a barber and a hair stylist, horse and carriage, cat and fish, and even some ultimate Disney favorites such as Mickey mouse and Minnie and Tinker Belle and Peter Pan. To find more twin costume ideas, head over to Hottest Twin Halloween Costumes, and if that’s not enough ideas then try this one Best Halloween Twin Costumes. more, but what ideas can you come up with?

andre1 answers:

You should totally dress up as the twins from The Shining. Scare the s**t out of everyone with rehearsed lines, and a lot of fake blood. I'm sure you'll win the best costume prize if there is one.

Just a suggestion

Ideas?

I'm a college student at Michigan State and i'm having a Halloween costume party. All my roommates are guys so were not that good at decorating. Any cheap ideas? thx. (we dont need any more lights bc we are having a DJ and he has lights)
- black plastic on walls
- cut out bats and hang w/ fishing line
- cotton spider webs

andre1 answers:

Bro sounds like a sweet party if your gonna have a dj and all that. Think about it, its going to be dark, the lights are the decorations, what more do you need? Just spend the extra cash you got on beverages and snacks. Or alcohol, whatever works. Have Fun.

Your Questions About Halibut Recipes

by andre1 on September 12, 2011

Daniel asks…

Halibut recipes????

I really like halibut but have never cooked it myself. Does anyone know of an easy but tasty recipe?

andre1 answers:

ALASKA BAKED HALIBUT

This recipe is for 1 pound of fish only. Increase each item according to amount of fish.

1 c. White wine or sauterne
1 tsp. Salt
1 lb. Halibut fillet or red snapper
Fine bread crumbs
1 c. Miracle Whip
1/2 c. Sour cream
1/4 c. Chopped green onions with tops
Paprika

Mix wine and salt; marinate halibut for several hours or most of the day. Dip both sides in bread crumbs. Place in greased baking dish. Mix together the Miracle Whip, sour cream and onions; spread over fish and sprinkle top with some of the bread crumbs and paprika. Bake at 500 degrees approximately 20 minutes. Allow a little more time for more fish. Check fish frequently while baking and when it flakes with a fork, it is done

Richard asks…

What are some yummy halibut recipes?

andre1 answers:

I'm a purist. I like my halibut lightly floured on each side and sauteed in butter or Olive oil. I like to sprinkle a little dill on the fish and salt and pepper to taste. This is simple and delicious. You can also stem your fish in a Chinese steamer -- you know the bamboo kind. Place water in a wok, along with a little soy sauce. Sliced ginger and Mirin cooking wine. Place green onions along the top of the bamboo basket. Lay fish on top and put steam top on. Place basket in seasoned boiling water and allow to steam for just a few minutes, or until the fish is flaky an tender.

Sandra asks…

andre1 answers:

Salmon & Halibut Recipes...?

My hubby is fishing in Alaska and I would like to know some really delicious recipes. If you have any will you please share?

(I am always sure to award 10 points) Thank you

andre1 answers:

This is something my 7-year-old, who will not otherwise touch fish, would eat 3 helpings of if I let him. We use alder or cedar planks for this, sold at a well-stocked supermarket and intended for one or two uses. It adds this great woodsy smoky quality that is hard to describe. BUT--if you can't get a plank like this, you can make a beautiful salmon or halibut anyway with this really easy method (hardly even qualifies as a "recipe"). This will serve 4, or 3 if one of them is . :)

--In a small saucepan, stir together 2 tablespoons butter, 1 tablespoon Dijon mustard (or use a different kind if you have a favorite), and 1 1/2 tablespoons white wine vinegar. My favorite is champagne vinegar, but any white wine vinegar will work. Heat it just until the butter melts. Stir and turn off the heat.

--If you can lay hands on a cooking plank, prepare it according to the directions. With the kind I use, you rub on a little olive oil and put it into a cold oven, then turn it to 350 to season it, but there are different kinds out there. If you're not using a plank, use a baking sheet lined with parchment or lightly-oiled foil, and preheat the oven to 350.

--Take the filleted fish straight from the refrigerator and use a pastry brush or a spoon to generously coat the non-skin side with the sauce. It will firm up, almost like a glaze, as it makes contact with the cold fish, so it won't run off. Season the fish generously with salt and pepper, and put it (on the heated plank or the cold baking sheet) into the preheated oven.

--Bake for anywhere from 15 minutes to 30--it all depends on the thickness of the fish and how well-done you like yours. We like ours cooked until it's just barely opaque throughout when you poke it with a fork.

--Just as you take it out of the oven, sprinkle it with a small handful of chopped fresh herbs. I usually use basil, especially this time of year, but dill is excellent too, and oregano or Italian flat-leaf parsley also work well. The heat of the fish is just enough to release the aroma of the herb without cooking it away.

I hope your husband has with his catch and that you get a chance to give this a try.

Easy Homemade Fish Costume

Halloween Costumes For Couples And Groups

Even more than candy and trick-or-treating, dressing up is an integral part of Halloween. Choosing the right costume can be a difficult proposition, never mind finding the right couple costume. Selecting a group costume can be even more troublesome.

Before you get down to the business of selecting your group or couple costumes, you have to find a costume source. The first place you can look is your local department or discount store. While their selection is sometimes limited, you may still be able to find the right costumes. Your best chance is to go early though. The closer it gets to Halloween, the more picked over the selection. If you have access to a Halloween specialty shop, or a , you may find a wider selection available.

Couple

The easiest place to start with a couple costume is to consider famous duos. Here are just a few examples of male/female duos to get you started:

* Adam and Eve
* Bonnie and Clyde
* Jack and Jill
* Cinderella and Prince Charming
* Pharaoh and Cleopatra

Often fairy tales and movies can be excellent idea starters. One online costume provider offers a Ball and Chain costume.

For non gender-specific costume pairings, consider ideas such as:

* Salt and Pepper
* Lock and Key
* Nut and Bolt

Group Costume Ideas

The larger your group, the more difficult it becomes to make a group costume decision. It also becomes more of a challenge to find enough costumes variations within a theme to accommodate the group. Online costume providers can be an invaluable resource when it comes to these types of volume purchases.

The easiest way to costume your group is to select a theme, with each member of the group having a slightly varied costume, perhaps based on gender or age.

For a larger group, around ten to twenty, a theme such as sea animals might work. Each group member selects a different sea creature, such as shark, fish, eel, lobster, etc. Another idea would be for each member to dress as a character from the Star Wars series of movies.

If you have a smaller group of people, one of the following group ideas may work for you:

* Superheroes (Superman, Batman, Catwoman, Wonder Woman, Spiderman, Batgirl, etc.)
* Pirates
* The (Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion, Munchkins, Glenda, etc.)

One online provider even offers group costumes based on cocktails and fast food.

No matter the size of your group, from two through twenty, with a little planning, you can find a Halloween costume theme that works for everyone in the group
