Your Questions About Fish Costume

by andre1 on September 21, 2011

Susan asks…

on how to make a clown for child?

My daughter is having a program at school where she will have to dress like a clown fish, but they don't want you to actually buy the costume, they want you to buy things to make one yourself...i don't have a creative bone in my body...any ideas??

andre1 answers:

Take a big piece of orange felt, and cut two pieces into the shape of a fish and sew them together leaving holes for a head and legs, make cutouts for the side fins and sew or hot glue them on and cut holes for arms right under the fins. Then take a piece of white felt and cut it into stripes, and hot glue them onto both sides of the "fish" and Voila... Clownfish costume. Oh and dont forget Eyes and gills... You can either buy the eyes, or just draw the eyes and the gills with a sharpie. You can put her in white tights for her legs.

EDIT: you can add glitter to the white stripes to make the costume really "POP"

Daniel asks…

how to make a kids fish costume?

I want to make a goldfish costume for my 9 month old daughter myself. Any ideas for an easy homemade fish costume?

andre1 answers:

Here is a cheap, no-sew way.

You will need:

A red or orange hooded sweatshirt and pants

One square yard of orange felt

One yard each-yellow satin, multicolored metallic fabric, gold metallic fabric

Scissors

Fabric glue or hot glue gun and glue

A roll or sheets of laminate to cover three yards of fabric

One square of felt each black and white.

Instructions

For the fins:

Cut out four equal sized fish fins from the orange felt. These are roughly a teardrop shape. Best way to judge is to look at picture of a fish and copy. I suggest to cut shape out of paper first to get the correct size and shape desired. Glue one piece to another so you have two double thickness fins. Glue one to each shoulder of the sweatshirt

Next cut out the tail fin to cover the back of the sweatshirt to just above the child’s feet.

Cut scalloped edges into three rows of the yellow satin. Cut five scalloped rows of the multicolored fabric and cut three rows of the gold metallic fabric. Glue these rows to the back of the fish tail. Glue the scale-covered fishtail to the back of the sweatshirt. Cut more scalloped shapes and glue them to the front of the sweatshirt.

For the eyes

Cut out two circles of white felt 2-3 inches in diameter and cut two circles out of black felt 1-2 inches in diameter. Glue the black to the white circles twice for the 2 eyes then glue these to either side of the hood on the sweatshirt.

EDIT:
I found a way that looks much better, but it will take more time and skill http://www.marthastewart.com/article/3-tiny-creatures-costumes?page=2&backto=true&backtourl=/photogallery/baby-costumes#slide_1

Richard asks…

How can I make a Fish costume?

I want to be "The Catch of The Day" for halloween. I have my lip pierced and I was going to but a fishing hook in it (with the barbs cut off of course). My boyfriend is going to be the fisherman, but I have no idea how to make myself look like a fish. I don't want to be an ugly fish either? Any cool, creative, interesting, fun, easy ideas?

andre1 answers:

You could find a mermaid suit or get some gauze that's sparkly and blue and decorate or sew sequins and then dye your hair a semi-permanent or fake blue and put soarkly clips in your hair and you can find fins on websites that sell kids' costumes. You just have to use your imagination. I like the idea of the fishhook. I wish I could get my lip pierced.

James asks…

How can I make a Betta/Siamese fighting fish costume?

This is the brilliant idea of my 4 year old for Halloween. Something that's easy to move around in and he can trick or treat in. Ideas? Doesn't look they sell this sort of costume either.

If you're not aware of what one looks like: http://animals.howstuffworks.com/fish/siamese-fighting-fish-info.htm
Ugh it really would be!

andre1 answers:

If only my old prom photos were online, they make an iradescendt blueish/black taffetta that would get that shade right. Im thinking something like getting a medium guage wire or boning - whats in prom dresses - also at your fabric store, and using that to make the pleats. And paper mache up a wire mesh for the body.

Homemade Hair Masks

Women's hair catches a truly raw deal. Every woman wants beautiful, shimmering hair that will turn heads, but in trying to do so they actually damage their hair and take out all of the ingredients that allow your hair to naturally shine at its best.

The reason so many of us do not create homemade remedies is down to a few things. Either we claim we have not got the time, or we think it will be too expensive and too much of a hassle.

Homemade herbal remedies for your hair are just as specifically blended fit to what ever hair type or hair problem that you are having. No matter the problem, your daily diet intake is truly a direct root to fixing and maintaining good physical or health issues.

For some of the highest Vitamin A foods, there are vegetables, such as spinach and carrots, there are fruits, like peaches, apricots and blueberries, and the dairy foods of milk, cheeses and eggs are also vital. With daily doses of protein foods, fish, very lean meats, and nuts or whole grain foods will only enhance your healthiest of overall body, hair, nails and brain functioning alertness too.
Ayurvedic herbal oil infusions are also really useful to add to homemade hair masks (e.g with Bentonite Clay) or henna (natural hair colourant) treatments to add slip and to counteract the drying effects of using clay or henna.

The lack of iron and vitamins also causes hair loss. In this case besides treatment with natural hair remedies, you need also eat food rich in iron. I especially recommend you to drink fresh-squeezed apple juice and eat various salads, nuts, more fish, etc. Fish is very rich in vitamins A, E. Or you can consult with your doctor and take some multivitamin tablets. But I recommend you to choose the natural way.

To be honest, these tips are vital not only for natural hair loss treatment but also for maintaining healthy, shiny and beautiful hair forever. So apply them on a regular basis to reverse hr thinning and amaze the people around you with your healthy hair. These simple secrets worked for all people who I advised to apply them.

There is really no going wrong in using facial masks that are homemade, as at one point every facial mask was a homemade facial mask. The best thing about using this particular method, regardless of your approach, is that you do not have to worry about some of the chemicals causing an allergic reaction on the face.

There are so many fun ways to make an easy homemade for your child or for yourself. It only takes a little bit of imagination to come up with some really interesting and fun costume accessories too. So have fun designing, making and watching your children dress up this year in homemade costumes. It's a great family project and you know your gang will have the most unique kids costumes out in the trick or treat routes.

Add a tsp. of baking soda to your shampoo. It helps remove hair-product buildup! Baking soda can also loosen blackheads. Combine equal parts soda and water and rub the mixture into your skin, let sit until dry, then rinse

Easy Homemade Fish Costume

by andre1 on July 7, 2011

For Couples And Groups

Even more than candy and trick-or-treating, dressing up is an integral part of Halloween. Choosing the right costume can be a difficult proposition, never mind finding the right couple costume. Selecting a group costume can be even more troublesome.

Before you get down to the business of selecting your group or couple costumes, you have to find a costume source. The first place you can look is your local department or discount store. While their selection is sometimes limited, you may still be able to find the right costumes. Your best chance is to go early though. The closer it gets to Halloween, the more picked over the selection. If you have access to a Halloween specialty shop, or a costume shop, you may find a wider selection available.

Couple Costume Ideas

The easiest place to start with a couple costume is to consider famous duos. Here are just a few examples of male/female duos to get you started:

* Adam and Eve
* Bonnie and Clyde
* Jack and Jill
* Cinderella and Prince Charming
* Pharaoh and Cleopatra

Often fairy tales and movies can be excellent idea starters. One online costume provider offers a Ball and Chain costume.

For non gender-specific costume pairings, consider ideas such as:

* Salt and Pepper
* Lock and Key
* Nut and Bolt

Group Costume Ideas

The larger your group, the more difficult it becomes to make a group costume decision. It also becomes more of a challenge to find enough costumes variations within a theme to accommodate the group. Online costume providers can be an invaluable resource when it comes to these types of volume purchases.

The easiest way to costume your group is to select a theme, with each member of the group having a slightly varied costume, perhaps based on gender or age.

For a larger group, around ten to twenty, a theme such as sea animals might work. Each group member selects a different sea creature, such as shark, fish, eel, lobster, etc. Another idea would be for each member to dress as a character from the Star Wars series of movies.

If you have a smaller group of people, one of the following group ideas may work for you:

* Superheroes (Superman, Batman, Catwoman, Wonder Woman, Spiderman, Batgirl, etc.)
* Pirates
* The (Dorothy, the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion, Munchkins, Glenda, etc.)

One online provider even offers group costumes based on cocktails and fast food.

No matter the size of your group, from two through twenty, with a little planning, you can find a theme that works for everyone in the group

  3. QUESTION:
    My 3 1/2 y.o. girl wants to be a "baby fish" for Halloween. Any ideas for a homemade costume?
    I have searched for costumes on-line and so far have found only cheesey Nemo comstumes, that are overpriced and not much else. I would like to try and put something together with clothes and/or fabric. Maybe someday, with a little luck and help, I will be the mom who makes cool costumes for her kids.

    • ANSWER:
      Well you could put a bright or sparkly leotard on her and some bright colored leggings or sweat pants. Then take strips of bright colored fabric and pin them to the waist of her pants or leggings but only on the back half of her. Then put her hair in a bun and paint her face with scales and wa la instant fish.

      Also if that doesn't work for you when i was little i went as I puppy wearing white sweatpants and a white sweat shirt and my mom pinned brown patches of felt on me then she painted a black spot around my eye, and my nose black. Lastly, she put puppy ears on me.

      I was also greatly loved when I went as a cookie.

      I wore black sweat pants and A black sweat shirt. Then my mom cut two circles of cardboard(both the same size) out of a flattened carboard box. She drew black chocolate chips on the cardboard with a magic marker. Then she cut a bite mark pattern out of the corner of each circle. Then she attached both of the pieces of cardboard with 2 pieces of yarn so that it could be slung over my shoulders and have a circle on my front and my back. she finished it off with a Got Milk? on the back of the cookie and put white face paint over my lip. It was loved greatly!

      hope that helped!
      good luck!

  4. QUESTION:
    Is a fish a good idea for a costume?
    I know a fish sounds like a gross animal, but I think it's original and creative since I've never heard of anyone being a fish before. I wasn't going to be a slimy gross fish either I was planning on wearing a tight shiny, scalyish dress for it. Is it a good idea or just weird?

    • ANSWER:
      I don't think fish are gross. I have pet fish and I love fish.
      I would love to see people dress as fish at Halloween, or any time.
      I think it might be hard to look like a fish, though. Their body structure is very different from ours.

      One friend of mine plans to dress as a Mermaid this Halloween. That's probably an easier costume to do, though, because only your bottom half needs to look like a fish.

Sexy Halloween Gangster Costumes

This costume is ideal for Halloween parties and people to dress dangerously! Gangsters carry a certain connotation of danger and excitement, so it is not so hard to believe that even a lady might like to dress up in a sexy gangster costume. If that is what you would like to try, you do not have to wait for Halloween. These days, surprising your man with something different for his birthday or your anniversary is quite all right. Women find the hint of danger of gangster pretty sexy too. Also, some people like to throw costume parties. So, the need for a costume can come at any time of the year.

Well, after you decide that a sexy gangster costume is what you want, what next? Okay, you truck on down to your local costume store; easily done, if you have one. But, what if you live in a small town; or the nearest costume shop is miles away? When you consider the price of gas these days, you may want to re-think that plan. Fortunately, our modern high-tech world has the perfect solution: the Internet. Go online; pick out any of one of the more useful search engines, and type in the parameters you are looking for. You’ll get a list of good companies that have just what you are looking for, some of them have a full line of great sexy gangster costumes.

If you want an outfit that is appropriate for just about any party, the Glamour Gangster features a and crop top. While a bit risqué, it is still quite modest. On the other hand, if something a bit… friskier - is what you desire, they have several fine costumes. The Miss Mafia, the Gangster Girl Garter, Sexy Gangsta Girl, Bugsy’s Babe, and Bootleg Beauty Sexy all feature a very short skirt; some have crop tops, and most come with an appropriate hat. If your man decides to go as a cop, you can always have a game of “cops and robbers” after the party – or instead of going at all! If, guys, you want to be the gangster too, you have it easy – black shirt, white tie and pinstripe suit and you’re good to go, especially if you team the outfit with a gangster hat at a jaunty angle. Think of Al Capone in his heyday.

When it comes to making your purchase, these online costume shops has got a secure shopping system; so there is no need to worry about your credit card information getting stolen. Shipping can be had for as little as $4.99, or – if you need your sexy gangster costume quickly, for $17.99 you can have it in two to four days.

Now, if you decide to try the homemade approach, a gangster costume is not that hard to put together. Go to just about any old clothes store, Goodwill or thrift store. What you want to look for is a man’s old suit. Then it is just a question of what sort of outfit you want. Take it in, making it snug, and presto – a sexy gangster costume. If something wilder is what you crave, clip the pants short and do not bother with the jacket; just get a white shirt and cut the sleeves off. A nice fedora, a purse and toy gun, and your ensemble is complete. So, whether store bought, found online, or done on your own, you can get the sexy gangster costume you want!
