Your Questions About Firefox

by andre1 on February 4, 2012

Thomas asks…

stop Firefox download window from popping up in Mac?

I have a Mac and use the latest version of Firefox. I want the download window to stop popping up every time i save like a picture or something. For instance when i save a picture i see in firefox, the download window pops up saying what i've downloaded and stuff. How do i get that pop up window to stop popping up everytime i save something to my computer (like a picture) in Firefox? I can't find anything in preferences in firefox either. PLEASE HELP!

andre1 answers:

In the location field of Firefox, type:
about:config

Press Return.

You will see a long list of parameters. In the "Filter" field at top, type:
browser.download.manager.showWhenStarting
(That is "browser. Download. Manager. ShowWhenStarting" but without the spaces. Yahoo Answers is wacky about not allowing long "words")

Where you see "true", double-click to change it to "false".

(By the way, this isn't a Mac thing. You need to do the exact same thing in Firefox for Windows or Linux.)

Helen asks…

In Mozilla Firefox how do you customize the toolbars to and styles?

In Firefox you have the standard silver toolbars where the address bar and file/edit bars are there is the silver background. How do you customize and change that around?

andre1 answers:

Toolbar yes u can. Go to mozilla add on. Choose colorfultabs. Here the link: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/1368

Ruth asks…

What is the difference between firefox and ?

My school has both and they are the same thing. Everytime I go to a site it says either: You must have firefox, or You must have internet explorer. Also why is firefox downloadable? Wouldn't you already have a browser?
What are the add ons like? Internet explorer has tabbed browsing.

andre1 answers:

Microsoft's built-in browser does not offer the same experience as open source browsers. Why should we not have a choice in which browser we use?

I personally use Firefox and think it's a lot better.

Just check out this CNET review:

Firefox is better in every way including, installation woes, look and community, tabbed browsing, cool new features, security and performance. The winner is clearly Firefox 2.

Joseph asks…

How do you transfer your bookmarks and RSS feeds from Firefox to a portable version of Firefox?

I have a portable version of Firefox on an external drive and I'd like to export my current Firefox settings form my laptop Firefox to it.

Is this possible?

andre1 answers:

Xmarks is the best Firefox extension for ongoing synchronizing Bookmarks as well as passwords and even currently open tabs across different computers.

Can't help with RSS feeds since I use My Yahoo for that.

Betty asks…

How do I save my Firefox bookmarks when getting a new computer?

I'm getting a new computer but don't want to lose my Firefox bookmarks. Is there an easy way to save a record of all the URLs in my Bookmarks and then quickly upload them to Firefox on my new computer?

andre1 answers:

Bookmarks... -> Organize Bookmarks opens a new window, click on Import and Backup to create a backup of them, copy that backup to a flash drive, then on the new PC do the same thing but Import from your flash drive.

Your Questions About Halibut

by andre1 on February 2, 2012

Sharon asks…

when is the best time of the year to caght a halibut?

im looking for the best time of the season when halibut are more active around the shore and are likely to feed more?

andre1 answers:

Basically, they feed more and are in shallower water in the warmer months, but you can get them any time of year off .

In the winter the fish are generally deeper (200 ft +) and sometimes you can really get them with live squid; then as the water warms in the spring they tend to gather over sandy bottoms in 40-120 feet to spawn. (This is a popular time for halibut derbies, but often you can spend your whole day catching dozens of shorts without stumbling on a keeper).

In the summer and early fall you can get them near structure in shallower water (40-80 ft.) when fishing bass. When the grunion run (under full and new moons in late spring and summer) they'll move in really close to shore and you can get them off piers and in the surf.

Mandy asks…

Can cats eat organic halibut?

I'm switching my cats to a raw diet and would like to know if they can have organic halibut.

Thanks.
Oh, I forgot to add cooked halibut.
I love my pets and want them to live long healthy lives. I will spend whatever it takes as long as my pet is healthy.

andre1 answers:

On occasion only. Fish in general is not good for cats. Tuna is the worst I believe, but any can be a problem. I don't know how, but it can exacerbate urinary problems and of course mercury levels are an issue too. Even if it's human-grade, organic fish.

I would keep it to once or maybe twice per week.

And I am a raw feeder. The way I do it I spend maybe 15 minutes every couple of weeks assembling the food. Big whoop. LOL People like the helpful Melissaaa shouldn't talk about things they obviously know nothing about. I've reported her answer.

Lizzie asks…

How do you know if fish has thawed too much and has now gone bad. Trader Joes halibut, left out overnight by m?

mistake. Still sort of cold on one side but fairly warm on the other.

andre1 answers:

Unless you are looking for a reason to spend a lot of time in the bathroom, I would toss it. It's just not worth it to get sick over. Consider it a lesson learned. We all do it...just learn from it and don't eat it.

Helen asks…

I am allergic to most fish (aside from cod and halibut) for a while and am looking for a natural remedy?

I would like to find a way I can eat fish without getting sick.

andre1 answers:

What is it you allergic to? Is it the iodine? Have you tried Salmon? If you are looking for the benefits of eating fish without getting sick, try fish oil tablets!

Daniel asks…

What's the best bait for catching halibut?

I fish at some place with alot of sharks and halibut and I always use fresh (just caught) mackerel but every one I see there uses rubber jigs so I went and bought berkely gulp with 400x more scent then live bait supposedly but I want to know if I should use it or not and what to use

andre1 answers:

Not sure where you’re fishing for them but I have fished for them in Alaska for a very long time.
As said calm and shell fish make good bait, but squid, small octopus, cut bait from many work well also.
I have used the large grub jigs with success, a tad bit of bait on the hook helps for scent. I have caught them on large trolling spoons by jigging them just off the bottom.
I have caught them on a herring rig for trolling for salmon when our boat stopped and my line hit bottom.
I use large circle hooks for large halibut and medium size circle hooks for areas that halibut ran on the small size. When I say small I mean halibut under 80 lbs. This is the type of circle hook I use in Alaska;

http://www.artsnflies.com/images2/articles/circle_hook239.jpg

If you sharpen that hook to a VERY sharp point it will set itself in the halibut’s mouth as the fish swims off with the bait. But if you get in a hurry and set the hook too soon you will not hook many. You see sometimes a halibut will just lay on its food and then eat it minutes later. If you yank on the line too soon it just pulls it away and will not hook into the side of the fish like a J hook can. I use the circle hook when my arms are tired from jigging or mooching.
Here is some info on jigging and moochings for Pacific halibut around California. It’s the same principle people use in Alaska;

http://afishionados.net/halibut/california-halibut/190-jigging-or-mooching-for-california-halibut

Every year we catch well over 600 lbs of halibut for our family and friends who are too elderly to fish. Those are just some of my ways to get them. I have learned to try to keep your bait just off the bottom. You see that prevents crabs and other bottom feeders from robbing bait. Also when the halibut come up and tries to pull the bait down it helps in setting the hook. So I feel the bottom and slowly bounce the bait off the bottom then hold it about a foot off the bottom for a few moments before slowly jigging it again.

Hope some of this helps you.

Here are some halibut we caught

Your Questions About Forever 21

by andre1 on February 1, 2012

David asks…

How long does the store Forever 21 take to ship?

Today is Monday and I need to buy something from Forever 21 and I need it by Friday. I might order it tomorrow, it all depends. But anyway, will it get here by Friday? I need it at like 5:00 pm and my Fed-Ex/Mailman comes by my house at like noon.
Thank You so much in advance!

LUH YAHx0x0
OH and if you know, how much is shipping for like either 2 or 3 items?

andre1 answers:

They are based out in Ontario... But where do you live?? I live in chino and get stuff in like 2-3 days. You also get free shipping with any orders over $75.00... I order from them a lot can you tell?

Ruth asks…

How do i keep my forever 21 jewelry from fading?

I buy a lot of my jewelry from forever 21...however it always tends to fade. I just bought a gold necklace from there yesterday and i would like to keep it that color. What should i do?

andre1 answers:

Ahhh I love forever 21!
I'm not overly sure if this would help, but if you painted it with clear nail polish, you know the kind that has UVA/UVB sun protectants in it..
I think that may stop the sun from fading the jewelery it you paint it carefully you would never be able to tell it's there! And if it doesn't work out, you can always remove it!
=)

James asks…

How long do stores like Forever 21 keep their clothes on the website?

I was looking online for some cute dresses to wear to my next dance,
and I found a whole bunch of dresses that I really like from Forever 21, delia's, and Wet Seal.
My question is, will I be able to buy these dresses before my dance, or will they already be off the website and out of stores by then?
My dance is in March or April I believe.
Thank youuu!

andre1 answers:

You should be okay. If your dance is in March, you should try and get the dress by Feb., usually stores move their merchandise a month or two before the next season. Try eModa for dresses, they have unique ones, usually seen in Seventeen Magazine and People. They have better clothes then Delia's, especially if you go to the clearance section. Here is a link. Good Luck with your Dance.

Carol asks…

find cute stuff on the forever 21 website & in the store?

I get so overwhelmed when trying to look through the clothes at forever 21 online and in the store because there is just SOO many clothes! What is a way I can find the stuff I am looking for without searching forever?

andre1 answers:

Don't search online , you can't try it . Go to the store and you can try the clothes and see which fits you the best .

Mandy asks…

Are the prices at a forever 21 in a mall different than the forever 21 on michigan avenue?

I know the tax is more expensive, but are the general prices still the same at the forever 21 on michigan avenue in chicago?

andre1 answers:

Besides sales tax, you will pay a lot for parking unless you take public transportation. Why not make a day of it with lunch and other shopping if you go.

Your Questions About Farm And Fleet

by andre1 on January 31, 2012

Sandy asks…

what is the to keep raccoons, weasels, and other predators away from and in your poultry barn?

I just got some chickens and I am thinking I am going to have coons, weasels, possums, in my barn that will get into my chickens. What is the best way to get rid/repel them? What about scare-crows? Are there any scents they dont like? Anything I could get at my Fleet Farm. I live in a small town so keep that in mind. We have Wal-Mart, Fleet Farm (Small one) & that is about all we have to get livestock supplise. (and human supplise...lol) Any good ideas?

andre1 answers:

I used to have this problem too.Black snakes are another concern, they got 2 of our hens.I got a dog and that took care of the mammals trying to get the hens since my dog preferred to stay outside. He took care of a weasel one time and never had any problems after that LOL Guess it scared the rest of them.

There aren't' any fool-proof methods that really work.Best to remember that animals will also dig under a fence too.I buried wire fence under my pen and also extended it out a few feet.I also locked my hens up at night.
It all depends on your set up.You really need a place to put them overnight.Try thinking like a hungry predator. You may also want to search some yahoo boards.I know there are a few chicken boards and I am sure they can help you better.Best of luck

George asks…

What is the best watt generator for our house?

Well, if you haven't heard, North Dakota is in national disaster at a federal level (officially declared by Obama), and our family has decided that it's time to get a generator, just in case. At our Fleet Farm they have three - a 3500, 5500, and 6200 watt. We live in about a 4000 sq. ft. home, if that matters. Price kind of is an issue, but we can always take it back if we end up not using it. Which one would you recommend getting? Thanks so much!

andre1 answers:

Generator sizes depend on what you want to run with it not the house size. If you want to know the size add the loads of all things you want to power on the genset. Exp. Refrigerators need 600-2500 watts, Lights x the number x the watts of each and look at the name plates on all items you want to run and add the amps to get the watts.
Exp. 20 amps x 120 volts= 2400 watts. Gen-size would be 3500 to allow for start ups and heat loss.
Don't forget some loads need extra power to start up and then they draw less power as they run so add 15% to total power.

Some generators have watt ratings that are fictitious numbers. Exp. Is 6200 watt rating is only if the 220 volt is connected and that is at 70 degrees for a short time at max power BUT in real life it is 5000 or less. Buy a generator and keep it you may need it more often than you think.

Recommendations are likely 7500-10kw diesel with transfer switch hooked up by qualified person to prevent backfeed. Extension cords are dangerous when used with generators unless deigned for such and wire size is larger. Smaller watts if you only run 1 or 2 things for limited time like 1-5 hrs.

Diesel is better since less flammable, fuel stores longer and cheaper buying farm fuel, can run bio diesel, waste cooking oil, Diesels runs at less speed, less noise, last 10x longer, resale value, less maintenance, longer run times and more fuel efficient. More stable power quality. Downside is about 2x more upfront.

Gas generators are cheaper initially, Downside is the opposite of diesel generators. Gas gensets have a short lifetime before failure most 50hrs. The best gas ones are Subaru and Honda.

Hope this helps, just hate to see people make mistakes thinking small gas generators will run a house for 500.00, they will run a few items for a short time, most are made of cheap parts because of selling price and will breakdown at the worst times when you may need it most. Wish the answer was shorter but it's your money and selection should not be based on the initial cost but the value and performance to do the job.
Mike

Nancy asks…

Where do I get a new head gasket and exhaust gasket for a snowblower?

Found the problem with my snowblower and hopefully fixed, but need new head and exhaust gaskets! Where would I get them from? It's a Tecumseh model# LH195SA. Would fleet farm or a hardware store have something like that?

andre1 answers:

Most any small engine repair shop will have those parts or can get them. You can also get them at outdoordistributors.com. Or Jacks small engines.

Richard asks…

How do I convert a 220 guitar amp to 110 power?

Have friends from Austria coming over to USA next summer with their band. They will be bringing their own equipment. Where can I find a converter to convert their 220 into our 110? Has anyone done this before? How safe is it? And will it keep blowing breakers? Can I find converters at Menards, or Fleet Farm?

andre1 answers:

Some 220v kit can be switched to work at 110v, get the guys to check this out.For that which can't be you basically need a "step up" transformer, you also need to check the current ratings on the gear (how much it draws in amps) Not sure of your Retailers as I'm UK based. However, given transportation costs & exchange rates (plus the fact that US electronics seem to be a lot cheaper than Europe) It may be more viable to buy/hire the equivalent kit.

Maria asks…

I am having a hard time looking for tires for my Saturn Relay. The size is 225 60r 17 and i live in minnesota?

I have tired fleet farm,Sams/walmart I am looking for a discount that i can look on line at?

andre1 answers:

P225/60R17 98S is not a tire size you are going to find in stock at most places, and particularly not at a big-box like Sams/Wal-Mart where tires are just another commodity like toilet paper. It is just not very common - almost unique to this particular vehicle. Low demand = low inventory.

I don't even stock this size yet at my store. My history says I've sold one set of tires in this size in the last year. That doesn't mean they can't be had, they just need to be ordered - usually same-day turnaround. The Kuhmo Solus KR21 is a great value tire at only $84.99 plus installation and are readily available out of my warehouse. The Michelin Hydroedge would represent the high-end at $144.99 - with a few choices in between.

Your Questions About Halibut Recipes

by andre1 on January 30, 2012

Charles asks…

What is the best halibut you have ever had? And how was it prepared?

I am looking to make a special dish using halibut as the main ingredient. I would love to hear suggestions of people and the best halibut they have ever eaten. Even if you don't know exactly how it was prepared, please describe to me what it tasted like and any ingredients that you could identify. If you have a restaurant as a reference, that would also be greatly appreciated (NOTHING DEEP FRIED and no SOUPS!!!) I am personally partial to recipes that are Indian or Thai, or contain some kind of creamy sauce.

P.S. Allergic to peaches.

andre1 answers:

Thai Fish Curry with Mango

Ingredients
2 lb (900 g) firm fish fillet (Greenland halibut), skinned and chopped into 1½ inch (4 cm) chunks
1 large mango, peeled and cut into ¾ inch (2 cm) pieces
2 x 14 fl oz (400 ml) tins coconut milk
For the curry paste:
2 medium red chillies, halved and deseeded
grated zest and juice 1 lime
2 stems lemon grass, roughly chopped
1 inch (2.5 cm) piece fresh root ginger, peeled and sliced
4 cloves garlic, peeled
1 small onion, peeled and quartered
1 teaspoon shrimp paste
3 tablespoons Thai fish sauce
To garnish:
3 level tablespoons chopped fresh coriander leaves

Method

Begin by emptying the coconut milk into the pan or wok and stir while you bring it up to the boil, then reduce the heat to medium and cook until the fat separates from the solids. This will take 20 minutes or so, and you will have about 1 pint (570 ml) left. Now make the curry paste, and all you do is put everything in a food processor or blender and whiz until you have a rather coarse, rough-looking paste and everything is perfectly blended.
Now, over a medium heat, add the curry paste and fish to the pan and, once it has reached simmering point, give it 4 minutes. Finally, add the mango and cook for a further 2 minutes. Serve the curry with the coriander sprinkled over and Thai fragrant rice as an accompaniment. To prepare the curry in advance, make everything up, keeping the paste covered in the fridge, then, 10 minutes before you want to serve, bring the coconut milk back up to the boil, then add the paste, fish and mango as above

This is from the second book by Delia Smith and its the best I ever tasted

Donald asks…

Side dish ideas for dinner party - main course is broiled halibut in strawberry mint salsa?

I have a delicious recipe for this broiled halibut in a strawberry-mint-watercress salsa that we just love and usually just have with salad. It's nice for a dinner party (assuming your guests like fish) because the salsa can be made ahead, and the fish only needs to be broiled for 4 minutes per side....

But for a more formal dinner party I need side dishes to go with it and I'm stumped. A Springtime rice dish of some sort? A potato-ey dish? Grilled eggplant? Nothing quite sounds like like it "goes" with the strawberies and mint and fish! Ideas? I don't mind something moderately complex as long as I can do the majority of it in advance.

andre1 answers:

I'm not sure you do need extra side dishes for a dinner party. I think it would be elegant to serve the fish with only a salad - very fresh, good dressing or a plain green like beans. Because the fish has such definite tastes I fear they would be lost amongst other flavours. The expression in Australia is to let the best dish be the hero! I would serve a more substantial starter - gnocchi or a noodle based one, a pate, or terrine and perhaps a heavier dessert - chocolate! Since you know the main dish well you could have some fun making something different for the other courses.
Your fish sounds yummy!
Forgot to add baby new potatoes would be good too - either boiled with butter or gently coloured in a fry pan with .

Ruth asks…

Need sauce recipes...?

CALLING ALL COOKS AND CHEFS:
I have a bunch of Omaha Steak fish fillets I am trying to eat for lunch. It ranges from stuffed sole to halibut and salmon and swordfish.

My plan is to pair the fish with veggies (i.e. broccolli, carrots, cauliflower, spinach, etc). OR brown rice.

I am hoping to find some SIMPLE sauce recipes that would go well with these pairings :) Just a dash of lemon and pepper is gonna get old pretty fast.

note: i do not like spicy sauce (or sauce with any kind of peppers in it), incredibly peppery sauces, anything with mustard, or mushrooms. I also do not enjoy more than a dash of onions.

PLEASE HELP!!
GREAT SO FAR!!!

Store-brand/things to buy is DEFINITLY welcomed..not committed to making things if i dont have to...

if you are suggesting buying things...please let me know if it is something I cannot find in my local albertsons/ralphs/chain grocery store :)

THANKS!!

andre1 answers:

Oh, try this balsamic vinegar recipe. It is really easy to make and is so good on fish. (I actually add a little raspberry jam when making it.)

Betty asks…

Halibut cozumel recipie?

Years ago in a Los Angeles area Restaurant, Gladstone, there was a Dish that they cooked called Halibut Cozumel. Do anyone remember that dish? Anyone know the recipe?

andre1 answers:

Must have been a house specialty so I would contact that restaurant to see if they would give you the recipe. Since Cozumel is a travel resort in Mexico perhaps the halibut was cooked in whatever spices and taste of Cozumel.

James asks…

Anyone have a recipe for the sherry-butter sauce served at Acapulco?

The sauce is served at Acapulco restaurants with their halibut filet. I've tried other sherry-butter sauce recipes I've found online but none even come close to tasting like Acapulco. Any info is appreciated!!

andre1 answers:

Sorry No ...but have you tried looking at cooks.com? They have 718 recipes for fish sauce and if you type in butter sauce there care 89 recipes some are really delicious to go over delicate halibut like lemon butter & parsley sauce some add slivered almonds some don't you can always add a little sherry to the recipe to spark .up your sauce Browse thru the recipes and add what you like and make it your own you are sure to come up with a winner. Recipes are meant as a guide
